Telephone-->cell phone; PC -->770

Back then, telephones were stationary gadgets. They were placed in certain locations, in certain rooms. When I wanted to place a phone call I needed to go into such a room and stay there until the talk was done. Residences and offices had phones, not people. One phone was shared with many people. Cordless phones gave some flexibility but even they were basically stationary.

Then came a cellular phone and changed it all. Today, I've got my own personal phone. I talk anytime anywhere. I talk in trains, in cafeterias, at airports, even while driving. I can make a phone call anytime and anywhere I want.

Today, PCs are stationary gadgets. They are placed in certain locations, in certain rooms. When I want to get online or send emails I need to go into such a room and stay there until the surfing is done. Offices and library rooms have PC's. One PC is shared with the entire family. Laptops give us some flexibility but even they were basically stationary.

Today we started the shipment of Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. .... I surf in trains, in cafeterias, at airports, even while driving. I can go online anytime and anywhere I want.

Now this was a bold story ;-) But hey, this is a good day -- it' s out now!!

I'll say it is! Congratulations!

(BTW, any chance Nokia will issue a press release and ANNOUNCE the Nokia 770's release?)

And what you say about unfastening us from our fixed locations to phone and to compute rings really true. The last couple days I've had a recurrent memory of the first time I saw someone watching television outside, at Astor Place in NYC, and how odd and freeing that felt.

I see how it's related now.

Oh my. I thought that people talking on the phone while driving were a serious danger. I understand now that the worst is yet to come ;)

I expect Nokia to at least come up with a hands free set for the 770 web browser.

The fact, that you can assecc Internet everywhere will definetlly affect all the industry. I think that soon we will say good bye to traditionall newspapers, because mobility of a newspaper was one of the few advantage over on-line version.

Roger, we'll issue such a release.

Jussi, I'm thinking Chrysler should come up with hands free steering for me!

Ivo, yes. I'll do my budget calculations, write my next novel, record my next album and do other such things with a PC in my work room also in the future ;-). But this blog, for example, happens though my 770. I'm already on-line more with my 770 than even I imagined!

Huge difference!!!!

With a phone input is done by real numberlized buttons.

With computers most input is done by the keyboard and the mouse.

On mobile phones (or cell phones as you Americans call them) input is done in the same real numberlize buttons.

On the 770 its done all stylus... the 770 will not replace the computer its not like the cell phone to the telephone. Its more like telephone to VoIP (via wifi).

I was just thinking -- voice recognition software and text-to-speech software are now on the list of software that should be ported to the Nokia 770 . . . except probably the RAM and CPU requirements are still over the top.

Dr. Jaaksi,

There has been some very serious, if not cult-like, interest in the 770 since the announcement in May. As with any new product, delays are often necessary to facilitate the release of a higher quality item. However, the scarce quantities available are starting to raise concerns amongst interested consumers.

Already, most of the European stores are sold out and I believe the UK store was out within 24 hours. Normally, this is a good sign for a new product. However, information is disseminating that the number of initial units available at launch last Thursday was ridiculously low which led to the quick sellout. I have no idea if this is accurate, but one individual claims that these were the initial launch quantities per Euro store:

BE,NL = 23 units
DK,SE,FI = 37 units
AT,DE,FR = 0 units
IR,UK = 42 units
ES,IT = 17 units

According to the November 7th press release, the US official online launch is a "week later" which would be tommorrow if it's a week after the Euro channel opened. For whatever reason, phone orders were being taken by US Nokia direct starting on Monday (I know because I placed one). As of today, the phone sales folks are saying they are sold out with no ETA on restocking. One poster over on Internet Tablet Talk spoke with a Nokia direct phone rep who said that their initial quantity on monday was only 15 units.

I can't stress enough how poor a message it sends to "launch" a product that is either backordered before it officially launches or is sold out so quickly after launch. Again, having this occur due to popular demand is one thing. However, if this is the case due to extremely low initial quantities, that speaks to very poor launch planning.

Many of us, including myself, very much want the 770 to be a success. I don't expect you to respond here, but I emplore you to light a fire under the powers that be to fill the supply chain. The 770 can't succeed if there aren't any units to be bought. Thank you for your time.

Jeff

Greetings Ari Jaaksi, you have a pretty cool blog here. I was searching for work at home job uk. I just started my home business and you can see it at this link - work at home job uk. Your post title caught my eye - Telephone-->cell phone; PC -->770. I'm just looking for tips on how to be a better mentor. I know that’s not what you’re going on about in this post but I am trying to expand my vocabulary phrases so I can talk to many different personalities. I mean I have to talk to a lot of people and I need to be able to connect with everyone.

Anyways Ari Jaaksi, this helped. Keep it up, I'll be back.

If you're selling your home, consider . Faded walls and worn woodwork reduce a lot more than house appeal. They cut into your price. Invest in a few cans of paint. Brighten up the interior. .

The Dash will prove you are wrong. WiFi is NOT for use while 'driving' as you claim the 770 can do. Bluetooth eliminates the need to make the device 'phone-like', it can be almost any shape. Cellular coverage far outstrips anything WiFi will ever achieve, not to mention the need to sign up with dozens of services if you want 'coverage' from the many access points you might find. Find a way to build the things with a modular transceiver and let the customer decide WiFi or Cellular. Why not?
