Summer Greetings!

I'm taking several weeks off. Up here in the north, summer time is so valuable that I want to dedicate as much time as possible to my family and to myself.

So I've been sailing with my family and doing other relaxing stuff. (Lasse, thanks!)

You may know that up here in Scandinavia we have something we call "every man's rights". In essence, I can hike on any land, spend a night in any forest, or moor my boat to any island I please -- as long as I'm not in a close proximity of anybody's home or summer cottage. Open access to our beautiful country!

10 pm!

You need proper tools for docking in the wild!

So I'm getting ready for the fall. One important occasion will be the Maemo Summit right after the OSiM world in Berlin. I hope we can -- once again -- initiate some fruitful discussion around open source (I know we will ;-) ), do some real work, meet interesting people and have fun. See you there!

Hmm, the yacht seems familiar -- is that Lasse L's Nangijala (or how ever that is spelled -- I always forget the name when I try to hail her over VHF)?

great blog! I found the link from the Nokia homepage. I've been reading lots lately about maemo and the 810. FANTASTIC stuff!! I'm a recent college graduate and avid linux user and would love to learn more about the OMAP chipsets. There is no doubt in my mind that mobile technology is the future. In the same way that enthusiasts hit the "hardware sales" boom in the 70's, the "software" boom in the 80's, and the "web" boom in the 90's, mobile technology and embedded devices is at the forefront now! I feel like I am approaching the crest of this wave and sense that it is imperative that I get involved soon. I have a passion for open-source development, and like-minded companies, I'm just not sure how to get involved. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Ari,
Hope you enjoyed your vacation. The photos look nice and I hope to visit your country sometime soon. While you are vacationing, though, someone at Nokia needs to get to work on fixing your software bugs. Please help fix my tablet with broken Nokia software!

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3652

Please explain to everyone how a serious bug such as this can go undetected in a major OS release, and then go unresolved for almost a year.

This type of situation exemplifies the reason for my argument that Maemo software needs to be more open. Maemo should rely more on the upstream distribution. Then your developers could concentrate more on fixing bugs such as this. Relying more on upstream should also save Nokia resources in the long term.
