Sttgrt
We had a good few days @ Nokia world in Stuttgart. Nokians, journalist, analysts, partners, operators, Maemo.org dudes, etc. I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from people once they saw a N900 in action. But then again, I do not know what they talked behind my back.
Or actually I do. Very positive comments also in various blogs and articles. People understand what we are doing and they like the product.
It is all about
1) Internet (browsing, chatting, sharing, talking ....) first
2) Open source & collaborative development for consumers
3) True computer experience in a small package
Alan has a nice story @ maemo.org.

Dr Jaaksi while I wholeheartedly agree with your take on the n900, I also feel I need to point out that the price as it stands is very high. f it needs to get some traction at least it needs to come down by at least a couplea 100 dollars. just my two cents
Hi Ari!
You did a really great job on the N900. The device even got recognized by other media then tech-related, and that is (at least for a niche-produkt the tablets used to be) a huge step forward. I really hope you don't just concentrate on the internet-experience. The phone has to be as neat as the things we saw until now, and I really hope it will be.

ok, but what about gaming for n900? now device has powers to run 3d apps, but will nokia invest in games?
gaming - it's the field where no one concurs apple and I don't like that.
The N900 is exactly what I want in a phone. It has the features I want and, more importantly, it has the software design and philosophy I want.
The only dark cloud on the horizon is possibility that Harmattan will not support the N900. I don't want to buy an N900 only to discover one short year later that it has been obsoleted simply because the new Maemo release no longer supports the hardware.
An often overlooked strength of the iPhone and iPod Touch is the consistent system software across all devices and Apple's long term commitment to supporting older devices in new releases of the system software. In my view it is essential that Nokia makes a similar long term commitment to supporting the N900 in future Maemo releases. Just as it is for desktop computers, a stable software platform with a long support cycle is vital for devices in the N900's class. Harmattan and future Maemo releases must continue to support the N900.
First all i would like to thank you for the amazing product at our service, finally not only as the n series has blown the expectations of high end technology but as let the consumers all able full modify their mobile they way we want it, just like everyone's desktop is different at home. I am inspired music engineer(21) and i carried the N95-1, my first nokia was when i was very young(canada) nokia 3330,than decided to get a new nokia, the symbian was easy, and i liked snake, so i got the nokia 6600(2004)and i fell in love with the phone and the nokia the brand , promised to buy any mobile from nokia. carried the phone for two years, the camera was amazing back than. Within the love with nokia i started to a lot of research on nokia and the beginning of smart phones. Than the N95-1(2006) was release and became my first n-series.''To me a classic phone'' Unfortunately i do carry the phone with me , although its in my room it is broken(my friend dropped it , it was the first time the phone was damage. I decided not to buy a cellphone until i see the next n series made a ''MOBILE DEVICE'', to be honest the n958gb and the n96 did not appeal to me.I wanted something different, like the n93 to the n95. Now this summer(2009) was remarkable, with the announce of the n97, defiantly my next phone.(actually yesterday was the first time i saw the phone in Canada, a women from the mid-east had the white one) AMAZING!!. since the release i've been planning to save to buy it. Until later august I heard about the N900; and believe me i spent hours reading the specs of this phone, and i am blown. It is the mobile device that i have dreamed of. I know I've been typing a lot, i wanted to contact nokian900 but i couldn't find a canadian outsource for a question and inquiry. I googled the VP of the product and found your blog......I am not sure if it was announced or confirmed, but to release of the phone. ''Will the N900 be release only by 3G HSDPA 1700 / 2100 / 900 ?
Will the GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 users (such as I,AT&T/Rogers/Fido) be able to use the N900?
In request the phone doesn't have to be sold in countries such as the n95-1. Mine was ordered from the UK. It leaves confused if the phone will be release in gsm capability.

awaiting a response if possible.
Thank you

There is not much to say about N900.Just that you did a great job.My name is george and i am from Greece-Thessaloniki.I can tell you from now that there are a lot of people in my country waiting for this device like crazy.
There is one big question in our mind.
On the hardware keyboard will we have Greek letters or not?
An answer in the above will make a lot off people here in Greece feel much better.
Keep up the good work.

N900 looks like the perfect phone for a linux junkie and open source advocate like me. Plus it looks great. Capacitive screen only think I would change (but offset by the addition of keyboard).
Main thing - you guys did the technical job. How about the business side? I pay AT&T in the US every month towards a phone subsidy, so buying unlocked phone is like throwing away $400. Please, please, please let's release a subsidized AT&T version and let's go toe-to-toe with the iphone!
Update to my previous post. I thought about this some more and did the math.
The iPhone on AT&T has $30/month data plan, upgradeable in 18 months. The regular unlimited internet on AT&T is $15/month, so that's a difference of $15x18 = $270 over the life of the contract (18 months may be when you can upgrade to next iPhone but you are still locked for 24 months, so maybe this is an underestimate - but let's consider the worst case).
So the N900 is available for sale now in the US for $580. $580-270=$310 very competitive with the iPhone, more so when you compare what's in the box for both plus the freedom of the open source phone.
So, now I'm just waiting for a N900 fully compatible with the AT&T network! Bring on the N900!
It's very highly possible, that N900 will be big success. Good !
But there are still few opened questions: 1. what with the rest of APIs/expected functionality (SMS, MMS, FM Radio, etc.) ? Will be they implemented ? 2. Does it have sence to develop GTK applications instead of QT ? 3. Will be Maemo 5 available in more devices ?
I see, that you're looking for people, but all jobs places are in Finland only. There is remote work more and more widely used in various companies. IMHO, you should think about hiring people from/in other European countries too. Especially, that you will have lower costs and will get good specialists too...
For now I'm very interested in getting real device to hands and testing Bluetooth and irda :). And maybe we will see at least Gammu/Gammu+ port soon ? Who knows ? :)

I can not believe you lived such a great experience. I think Nokia is one of the strongest enterprises in the world, and it should be nice to meet the people are in charge of the productions and marketing of Nokia goods!

It is a fantastic phone, I had it and the applications and the navigation are easy to use, excellent model, one of my favorites.
I believe Nokia announced it will be primarilly concentrating on their alliance with Microsoft. Meego development will not be stopped and one Meego device will become available in 2011
