About boring cars
Getting close now!!
It was cool to see the Maemo Summit participants playing with N900s. For those of you who still need to wait for a while (yes, my fault ...) check out the new videos from our UI team.

We are working like maniacs to get the N900 finalized. I'm so proud of the Nokia teams in India, US, and Finland working hard on Maemo 5 .... and already equally hard on Maemo 6. And I'm also very happy to see the Maemo community efforts getting cool stuff on and inside the Maemo platform.
People speculate now if N900 is a smartphone, or a computer, or a some kind of a killer of another phone --- you know. I understand that people want to compare N900 to other devices, but it's like comparing apples and oranges. Literally. N900 does many things better than any other device I know, some features could be improved, and some tricks it cannot do at all. So you better check it out and form your own opinion.
Those of you who know me know that I'm a bit of a petrol head. So for me my N900 is a bit like my Alfa Romeo. It can be almost anything -- but boring it ain't!

...and, life is simply too short to drive boring cars. But that's another story .....

can u tell us a final shiping date?? if only be only 2 or 3 weeks from now:-)
allways same back scratshing "working hard here, and there and everywhere.
And still up to 3 months delay.
Nokia should put november in the beginning instead for push the shipday 2-3 times.
Better to far and change the day.
and the operator 3 here in sweden got week 52 as a ship day, thats end of dec.
Guessing that if it will go over nov im going to cancel my, and wait over christmas and see if there anything else good stuff coming in the spring.
Sad but true =/
A rough Friday .. eh?
yepp, pretty hard. watching LOST, getting a pizza, and..hmm reading more and more delays.
cant be more worse.
Mikä se on jokka teke että se ei koskan tulle uulos? kun me ei tiedä okeia vastaukse. onko teknika ongelmia? anteksi kun on paska suomen kieli.
is the (most recent) delay caused by https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5315 ?
I'd understand the problems of mandatory update of modem-fw then.
Or is there another showstopper you could share a few details about, so we all might understand why we have to wait?
thanks for any info
jOERG
I will accept a personal 'I am sorry' card with my N900 as apology for the delay.
And as a software team leader may I suggest free pizza and coffee for the developers. And they can sleep after the release. (If this does not work, I think I have a whip somewhere you could borrow. That always helps.)
Anyways, thanks for bringing an awesome device to us, soon(!).
;)
Quick question (your the man to know!) will we be able to upgrade from maemo 5 to 6?
N900 is worth a small wait. I'm waiting for one as well. By quoting a Jeremy Clarkson's book I'd say it's got a soul.
And there are really a cool looking (2x6?) intake tubes in your Alfa :^)
Why do you bother asking him questions? Nokia employees have to wear muzzles (literally) otherwise they will no longer be Nokia employees. So... just wait until the ones in Power will release the word.
N900 is worth a small wait, I think my N900 I got at Maemo Summit is the BEST ever device I had have!!!
It is so cool!!
What happens to Maemo 4 users, btw?
I dont expect maemo5 on n810, of course, but I do expect some maemo4 development (service pack, anyone?). ICQ support died, facebook needs flash update, igoogle page got much heavier because of embedded gtalk...
I hope the n900 isn't like an Alfa Romeo - I'd be too scared to drive one of those, and would never be able to afford it!
A few comments:
Teo, sorry, cannot. I hope soon.
Toivanen, we said October. It is still October today and now it seems it goes to November. Where did you come up with your 3 months? I do not know about your operator, though.
Anonymous, yes, you can follow up some issues at maemo.org. We have a few small issues mainly in the overall stability side we wanted to fix. As you know this is a very complex device with brand new hw and sw. I hope it is simple for the consumer --- but complex inside.
Andy, we need to party and stuff ....
Zfarooq, We simply do not know the details yet. But as always with new hardware, not all the features we have in Maemo 6 based devices will be available in Maemo 5 based devices. Some will, and you can see it already now: like Qt and many Qt based apps etc. But things may change in many directions while we develop Maemo 6. Pls, check out the plans at maemo.org.
Ove, thanks. I agree.
Atanas, There is a lot of n810 activity happening @ maemo.org.
RevdKathy, this will not be your average phone. That I can tell. It will be something else. You need to have the courage ... and you need some money, too ;-)
I just give up!! I will buy myself one of these:
http://www.archos.com/products/nb/archos_9/index.html?country=gb&lang=en
It is cheaper, bigger screen, 100% future proof OS (Win 7) & the best part is I don't have to read your blog anymore!!
@Ove, easy to say when you already got yours, when you're waiting for it, the wait is terrible. Especially when you preordered it and don't even know when it'll be released.
Thanks for replying Jaaksi, one last question.
Would I regret buying the N900 given a Maemo 6 device will ship around 6 months later?
I understand the N900 cannot support multitouch, but besides that stuff like more portrait use, and the other cool maemo stuff, I hope it comes to N900!!
Great work so far btw!
i got 3 months from that first shipday was in september ,then oct and then now.
Nokia told 3 that they will be first in swe to get,and earliest will be V52.
Did se that in 3´s facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/3Sverige
" 3 Sverige: Nokia har flyttat lanseringen av N900 till vecka 52."
and V52 well be 3 months from september.
Toivanen: first shipday has always been October. See http://www.nokia.com/press/press-releases/showpressrelease?newsid=1337594
I really love the way you have shared the things. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing with us.
Sorry Ari, but now i would like to have a answer on thins, got a mail from Katshing.se where i booked my N900, and nokia has told that N900 will come end of Januari.
And why is that?
Paste from the mail:
"Tyvärr har vi nu fått reda på att N900 inte kommer att komma till den svenska marknaden under 2009. Gissningsvis kommer den i slutet av januari 2010, men det är inget som är bekräftat."

We are waiting and waiting more... Even if will be released today, to my country N900 will come with about 3 months delay. Very sad
Really looking forward to the N90. But, Ari, tell us about your Alfa. I don't recognize the engine bay, other than the fact you have the V6. Maybe time for a video (taken with the N900 of course, heh) of the engine note?
This is really excellent.
Anyways, thanks for bringing an awesome device to us..
wow!!! just look the size of that engine, it's a real animal, well and why not, just take a simple look into that car and you can see why you put ypur eyes over then.
Sometimes I play video games and I like it, but no just for playing in a cellphone during all day...
As far as I know the N900 was launched alongside Maemo 5, giving the device an overall more touch-friendly interface than its predecessors and a customizable home screen which mixes application icons with shortcuts and widgets.
Boring cars))
